• Publishers of different little magazines, popularly known as Little Mag, complained yesterday that this year the authorities
of Bangla Academy had decreased the number of stalls allotted to them. They also complained that many organisations got stalls in the book fair although they do not have any publications. They claimed that last year a total of 38 Little Mags got space in the Amar Ekushey Book Fair and this year the number is 28 only. Shakil Ahmed, a publisher of little magazine 'Kishan' while talking to this correspondent stressed on the role of Little Mags in spreading the roots of literature of a nation. When this reporter asked to an official of the Bangla Academy, on condition of anonymity he said, "We allow all the Little Magazines by following certain rules. Stalls were given only after justifying their quality of publications." He further said, "This year we are constructing a new building. We faced space problem for this reason also". Asked about the organisations getting stalls in the book fair not have any publication he replied, "For example, the British Council, they do not have any publication house. But we allow thaem to have a stall because it is a demand of the time." However, Partho Bosu and Satyaprio Bandapaddhay who came from West Bengal were very appreciative about the importance of little magazines. A total of 72 new titles hit the book fair yesterday. 'Bhalobashar Rally' written by Joseph Akter, published by Etyadi Prokashani and 'Kabita Amimangshito Ramani' written by Nirmalandu Gun published by Bivash Prokashani were among the new titles.
